Thanks to a customer commission, we have a new doll: The Little Prince! The one shown has gone to a new home, but I still have the pattern I designed, should someone else like to order one. The other two photos show the dolls I have on hand. Sadly, we won’t be doing the South of the James Market this summer due to other time demands. However, if you would like to purchase some of our dolls or creatures, send an email, text, or call! See the contact tab for numbers and address.
Yes, I do still blog – tho a bit sporatically! Today’s post is about these new creatures that will be with me at the South of the James Market on Saturday. The dragons are the same pattern you’ve seen here before; the rabbits have different eyes. I’m experimenting with felt, for those who worry a young child might be at risk with button versions. I used the alpha characters on my lovely Babylock Symphony sewing machine to embroider ‘O’s on felt which I then cut out and stitched on for eyes! We’ll see what folks think of them this Saturday. Hope to see you in Forest Hill Park, 8 til Noon.
I had a great time teaching a textile class to my sister’s drawing class in October! She did a two week project with them, and I was privileged to assist on four days the first week. Each high school student designed their own 8″ image, then created it in fabric on a colored 12″ felt backing. Of the 45 kids, maybe one or two had done any previous hand stitching. At the end of the fortnight there were 45 amazingly original, colorful, and fun creations, and 45 very pleased kids! Did I mention we were dealing with a class of 45?! I can’t believe how attentive they were!
So that’ the first photo above – me and my dear sister and fellow Dan Springer, Donna Mercer. The other pictures are new dolls and creatures that will be with me tomorrow at the Covenant Woods Christmas Market – noon til 7 pm. Grab your winter coat and come on by!
Our newest doll joins Dan Springs tomorrow at South of the James Market – Alice and the White Rabbit! The rabbit has a reversible vest, tweed with watch on one side, hearts on the other. Come check it out!
We’ll also have more sock elephants, rabbits in a tin, bears, and dragons. Hope to see you there – 8am til noon.
Tomorrow, Saturday, Septmeber 7th, Dan Springs Collection will be at South of the James Market in Forest Hill Park here in Richmond, Virginia. Joining our usual selection of dolls and creatures will be two new dragons and a unicorn! There’s also a new bevy of pocket dolls and small dolls, along with a lovely wren bird house. Hope you get a chance to come by – the weather should be sunny and cool!!
Inventory was down to one dragon, so I finally got around to making the purple sock version I’ve been cogitating on for awhile. Not exactly what I had in mind, but he’s very proud of himself!
Button jars have also been selling well, and here’re some new ones that will be available on our next market day, August 6th. Hope to see you at South of the James!
Between now and then, East and West divisions of Dan Springs Collection will meet in Los Angeles, compare and experiment on new possibilities, and attend the Long Beach Quilt Festival together! Stay tuned!
The South of the James Market in Forest Hill Park, off 42nd Street, opens tomorrow at 8 am, and Dan Springs Collection will be there! Join us for fresh produce, fine crafts, food, and fun for all ages. Canines welcome.
I’ll be at the Market on first and third Saturdays (check the calendar tab on this site for dates) with cloth dolls and fabric creatures. I’ll have a handcrank sewing machine with and we’ll make child-powered rice bags. Come on out – looking foward to seeing you!
